Provide a Meal that Heals
Please carefully review the guidelines listed on the individual scheduling pages prior to scheduling.
Please review our food safety instructions. Meal group leaders will need to acknowledge the group will follow these guidelines upon arrival.
- How many people may participate?
Preparing and serving meals for the families at the Ronald McDonald House is an excellent opportunity for small groups of up to 12 people (or up to 8 people if serving at our Riley location). Groups must be 16 years and older. Please note, for groups 16-18 years we ask that an adult is present with them at all times.
- Meal Times
Meals are scheduled 7 days a week. Scheduled meal times are as follows:
House at Limestone
– Breakfast: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
– Dinner: 6 to 7 p.m.
House at Riley
– Breakfast: 9 to 10:30 a.m.
– Lunch: noon to 1:30 p.m.
– Dinner: 6 to 7:30 p.m.
We ask that you purchase or prepare a meal for 50-75 houseguests. There is no guarantee as to how many houseguests will be able to attend as sometimes families are unable to leave the hospital bedside to come to the meals. You could serve anywhere between 20-50 guests on any given night, though generally the average runs around 35-45 people.
We welcome you to leave any leftovers from your meal for our families who may have missed the scheduled meal time and may stop by to eat later in the day.
- Meal Planning
We leave the meal planning up to the individual groups. Because of food safety requirements, all meals must be prepared in a commercial kitchen or at the RMHCCIN kitchen. During the winter months, lasagna, spaghetti, and chili are served quite frequently, so feel free to consider another hot food entree. Please contact us below or see our Pinterest page, if you would like suggestions.
The houseguests have access to coffee, milk, water and pop. You are welcome to provide iced tea, lemonade or punch if you like. The breakfast groups may bring juice. We have a 3 gallon beverage dispenser with spout available at our Limestone location. We also have plenty of ice at the House that you are welcome to use.
The expense of the meal is the responsibility of the group.
- Set Up
Tablecloths or decorations are not necessary. For the safety of our houseguests we ask that you do NOT bring any candles or balloons.
We do ask that you provide paper/plastic products. That would include utensils, napkins, plates, dessert plates and 12-oz cups.
Groups providing meals at our House on Limestone will use the kitchen in the North wing for any food preparation. We have gas grills that can be used for summer cookouts. Groups also serve the meals from tables located in the adjoining dining area. Groups are also required to bus the tables and clean up after the meal. A House volunteer or staff member will be available to assist you with this task.
- Parking and Check-In
Groups may park in the parking lot located behind our facility on Lansing Street. Since we share the parking lot with our families and have limited parking spaces, we encourage groups to carpool when possible.
When you arrive at the Ronald McDonald House, please pull up to our main entrance on Limestone Street to obtain a parking pass from the front desk. You may also unload with our carts at this time. A volunteer or staff member will direct you to the parking lot. Please see Riley House scheduling page for information on checking in at this location.
